SBG MMA Athletes Win in London & Dublin

Just one week away from Conor McGregor representing SBG and Ireland in yet another huge UFC main event, fighters from SBG’s gyms in England and Ireland secured an impressive string of victories in both the UFC and BAMMA, one of the leading MMA organizations in Europe. SBG Manchester’s Davey Grant competed at the UFC Fight Night event in London, while across the Irish Sea, nine of SBG Ireland’s athletes took part in the BAMMA 24 event at the 3Arena in Dublin.

Davey Grant put his years of injury behind him to secure a comfortably one-sided, unanimous decision win against Marlon Vera. Grant controlled the fight for all three rounds, dominating throughout with far more significant strikes, before having his hand raised at the end. Afterwards, Davey said:

“I’m over the moon. It was a hard fight, but just so worth it to get the win. I feel like I’m a better fighter now. It’s been two years of learning… It was brilliant walking out there, honestly. I felt so relaxed and it was just one of the best experiences of my life. I felt nice and comfortable in the Octagon and I look forward to the next one.”

Meanwhile, in the BAMMA 24 event, seven SBG fighters also had their hands raised. In the main event, John Phillips won the BAMMA Middleweight title with a first round knock-out of Cheick Kone, the last of multiple, emphatic first round victories for SBG. Chris Fields beat Dan Konecke with a first round D’Arce choke, Brian Moore beat Mick Brennan by TKO and James Gallagher submitted Gerald Gilmore with a rear naked choke, both within three minutes, and Dylan Tuke demolished Mark Andrew within one minute. Peter Queally secured a unanimous decision win over Nathan Jones to extend his record to 8-2, and Sinead Kavanagh beat Zarah Fairn Dos Santos by split decision to pick up her second pro win. Paul Byrne (TKO) and Cian Cowley (decision) were the only two SBG athletes that tasted defeat.

SBG continues its dominance of MMA in the UK & Ireland – a dominance that last year saw Saul Rogers and Artem Lobov both earn places in the Ultimate Fighter final, Martin Stapleton win BAMMA’s lightweight title, and Matt Inman win the Made4TheCage welterweight title, to name but a few high points. Ahead of Conor McGregor’s headlining fight against Nate Diaz this weekend, SBG continues to forge an impeccable name for itself at all levels of MMA.
