04SBG Idaho Duo Both Win At Front Street Fights 4

Last week saw the SBG Idaho duo of Freddy Arteaga and Stephen Stirewalt competing at Front Street Fights 4, in the CenturyLink Arena in Boise, ID. Freddy Arteaga took on Weston Barnes while Stephen Stirewalt fought Leon Taylor. Both of the Combat Fitness/SBG Idaho fighters walked away from their respective contests with comprehensive first round victories.

SBG Idaho’s Stephen Stirewalt vs Leon Taylor

SS

In his fifth amateur contest, and the third fight of the night, Stephen Stirewalt saw away Leon Taylor with a first round submission, courtesy of a triangle choke. His opponent was the one to push the pace from the opening bell, and a take down from Taylor was what allowed Stirewalt to find his way to securing the choke, which, after a little adjustment, was enough to force the tap after just 1 minute and 1 second of the round. The win extends Stephen Stirewalt’s amateur record to 3-2. It is his first submission victory, but all three of his wins have been picked up within the first two minutes each fight, previously by TKO.

Freddy Arteaga vs Weston Barnes

FA2

In one of the professional bouts on the FSF 4 card, Combat Fitness/SBG Idaho fighter Freddy Arteaga took on Weston Barnes. His first round win came by way of strikes, leading to a verbal submission. After an early standing exchange, Arteaga managed to drop his opponent to the mat with a hard right which could have potentially ended the fight even earlier, but Weston Barnes did well to recover. Back to standing, it was not long before Arteaga landed with another big right that this time sent Barnes down onto one knee. Follow-up punches from standing to his felled opponent spelled the end for Barnes, who this time could not recover from the onslaught. The win extends Freddy Arteaga’s professional record to 5-3, with all five of his victories coming by way of a stoppage.
