New Southern U.S. Regional Director
From Matt:
First off I’d like to thank the previous Regional Director,Adam Singer, for a job well done over the last several years. Adam has played a large role in the formation of SBGi from the start, and hisservice is greatly appreciated by all.
Like all positions within SBGi, RD’s are meant to be
rotating positions. And as such I am very happy to announce our newest Regional Director for the Southern Region of the USA, Harry Powell.
Those of you who have met Harry at various Camps, retreats, or training sessions know that he is a talented, experienced, and mature coach. And he will be readily available to help everyone in
his area who may have questions, or need guidance.
Harry has been training in martial arts for the last 15 years, and began running a fulltime gym seven years ago in 1999. Like many of the coaches in the SBGi organization, Harry went the path
from
traditional martial arts to JKD, then on to functional combat sports and Alive
training. His main focus today is helping athletes in his gym to be
the
best that they can be. To quote Harry:
“We try to create an environment where
athletes regardless of their age or personal goals can have a place to meet and improve their games.”

Honoring the Process
Be sure to check out Matt’s new
Aliveness 101 Blog entry, “Honoring the Process.” A brief excerpt:
“What I realized better after that day was two things.
The first is that the rush of joy that the athlete experienced at that moment didn’t just come because of a success on the mat, but instead that the success on the mat had served as a vehicle for a different understanding, and that this understanding was actually a certain
kind of pleasure that only comes in moments where you learn something new about yourself. Where you have discovered it, through trials and risk, and made it through to another side.
And the second thing I realized is this. . . . that I as a Coach had little to do for that process, beyond my
role in creating a safe and healthy environment that allows its frequent
occurrence.”
