Rebecca wins the first ever King of the Cage female fight!
Rebecca has her hand raised in victory.
April 22, 2006 – What a war! Rebecca won her debut MMA fight via split decision against a very tough Thricia Poovey. In her post-fight interview Rebecca commented that her opponent hits very hard, and she has the battle scars to prove it. In a textbook application of her game plan Rebecca circled her opponent around the cage before finally pinning her against the fence, directly in front of her corner. While delivering multiple knee strikes to her opponent’s thighs, Rebecca worked unsuccessfully to take her down to the ground. At this time Thricia was able to land numerous small uppercuts to Rebecca’s face, causing her nose to bleed and some swelling to her eye.
Rebecca and Thricia Poovey, all smiles after the fight!
After a restart by the referee the stand-up battle resumed, with multiple exchanges occurring between the fighters. Rebecca repeatedly pinned Thricia against the cage, working knees and elbow strikes to score points with the judges.
Round two included much of the same. Both fighters came out swinging but a tight defense allowed Rebecca to weather much of the storms while unloading punches of her own. Both fighters came prepared for a battle with cardio to spare. Should the fight have had to go a third round, I believe both fighters would have been physically prepared to deliver.
The final result of the fight was a split decision in Rebecca’s favor, earning her the victory, and a place in King of the Cage history. Reflecting back on the fight Rebecca is very happy that she was able to deliver the kind of fight that the KOTC crowd appreciated. The KOTC promoters, and the cheering crowd agree!

Competition results from SBGi Scotland!
The Power of Scotland March 12, 2006:
Paul “angry ferret” McVeigh submitted Nayeb Ezam (French Top Team) by Guillotine 2nd rd. In this fast paced bout McVeigh abandoned his usually, “scream and go for a take down the first time someone throws a punch” tactic and proceeded to punch kick elbow and knee his opponents head off before securing a weird standing guillotine in the second round.
SBG Scotland/Dinky Ninjas go 4-0 at kickboxing championships. With few mma oppurtunities available in Scotland the Dinky Ninja’s (SBG Scotlands fight team) decided to turn its hand to other combat sports, in this instance kickboxing. Despite being unsure of the actual rules the guys preformed great going 4-0 all four victories within the distance.
Andy “The Scorpion” Snape defeated his opponent via TKO (doctors stoppage due to broken nose) between rds 2 & 3.
Craig “Tony Montana” Snape defeated his opponent by TKO due to body shots in Rd 3.
Graham “Afterburner” Turner TKO’d his opponent in 24 seconds of Rd 1. New British welterweight Kickboxing Champion
“Dirty” Tam Weir defeated Paul Crooke after Crooke was unable to continue after a series of low kicks at 1 minute 4 seconds of Rd 1. British super middleweight kickboxing.

Congrats to Toshi & Eric!
SBGi Denmark wins again
In the Openmat 8 turnament yesterday, SBGi Denmark / CSA CPH once again took home some medals. This is the biggest and oldest submission wrestling turnament in Denmark, so there is some prestige in winning this one.
-88 kg
Thomas la Cour 1st place
Carsten Ettrup 2nd place
-77 kg
Kari Gunnarsson 2nd place
Claus Vistesen 4th place
Thomas demolished everyone as usual, submitting people so fast that we didn’t even turned on the video camera before the fight was over. Basic zhoozhits as usual – armdrags and RNC.
Carsten – the co-owner of my gym – was the only guy who did not get submitted by Thomas as they met in a super tough fight in the final, where they both gave it everything. On his way he beat a long line of tough guys to get there!
Kári made it to the final by beating everyone by pimpmoves. I had promised him a beer for every one-step guardpass he did and all I can say is that it was an expensive evening for me when we went to the bar after the turnament!
We had a ton of beginners in the turnament who all did very, very well. It was so cool to see!
