West Coast Fight Club Grappling & MMA Results
“We have had a busy month with competition. July 5th we were in Vancouver, BC for the Submission Series. I placed 2nd in the Advanced No-Gi, (cut too much weight in too little time). Bill Payne received 2nd in Gi white belt and 1st in no-gi beginner. And Frank Pefferman placed 2nd in Gi and we had to pull him from no-gi due to shoulder injury.
July 12th in West Seattle @ the Revolution we had many competitors. Danny Bates received 1st place in no-gi beginner. John Keay received 2nd in a stacked no-gi intermediate division (triple overtime in his last match). We received several more 3rd place rankings and also placed both of the fastest submissions in Gi and No-Gi for the tournament. Patrick Jung (Gi) landed a beautiful submission @ 34 sec. beating out one of his teamates for the title. And Addison Franks (No-Gi) landed an amazingly slick flying arm bar submittin his opponent in 5 sec. For some reason we have landed 3 of the last 4 fastest submissions in the last two tourneys.
The WCFC team competed again last Sat. (19th) out in Lynden, WA. We had 4 athletes compete and as usual I could not be prouder of they way that the team represented themselves and the program.
Results:
1) Jimmy Sorrentino: (Sub. Grappling 135lbs.) Winner via decision
2) Bill Payne: (Sub. Grappling 150lbs) Winner via 4 Sub skunk rule
3) John Keay: (MMA 155lbs) Winner via Unanimous decision
-this was an excellent example of game plan put to use. John used his superior striking skills and range picking his opponent apart for 3 rds.
4) Elisey Yarovoy: (MMA 170lbs) Lost via RNC
-This was one of those fights where even though LSA lost he still due to his outstanding performance. Elisey was solidly beating his opponent for 2 1/2 rds and then during a scramble his opponent ended up on his back with the choke in. This was Eliseys first fight and has great things ahead of him in this sport.”

“We had two athletes compete this past weekend in Missoula. The first was Ryan Assay who was coming off a rd. 1 win in his first mma bout. This fight went the distance and saw Ryan nearly finish an armbar and take his opponents back in the first rd. The second rd. bell saved Ryan’s opponent from a secured triangle choke. The judges scored it a split decision for his opponent. I was proud of Ryan’s performance and not in agreement with the judges but he got alot of ring experience and stand up experience.
Duran fought second and took his record to 2-0 via armbar rd. 1 He fought a larger opponent but hit a beautiful firemans takedown, passed the guard, mounted, and secured a tight armbar from top. This 19 year old is already a beast and with his college wrestling background could go far.”

“Last Saturday we had three athletes and one new addition to the fight team compete at the FCFF.
First up was Cory Roska. Cory has been on a tear lately and kept the momentum going. He was up against a tough, undefeated Team Quest opponent. Cory controlled every second of this fight at all ranges, slamming his opponent several times with authority and serving up some solid ground and pound. Cory walked away with the unanimous decision.
Next up was Hamilton “Scrambleton” Ash. Hamilton continues to improve and maintain his winning streak. Hammy had great footwork and punched his opponent at will. Smelling blood, Hammy pounced, took his opponent down with ease, took his back, hipped in and dropped bombs; TKO due to strikes.
Last but certainly not least was John “Clam” Diggins. John positively dominated his Team Quest opponent from start to finish. John had him fighting out of submissions and bad positions for the entire fight. The grand finale was in the final 10 seconds of the fight. John had his opponent mounted (again) while his opp held on for dear life with a body lock. John began lifting him up and slamming his head against the mat with brutal shoulder strikes, which opened up heavy strikes from mount. Had the bell rung 2 seconds later the fight would have ended in a knockout rather than unanimous decision for John.
Also fighting on the card was Sean Miller. Sean is a friend of ours and one of the scrappiest guys you’d ever want to meet. He dominated his Team Quest opponent in what may have been the most explosive, exiting fight of the night. Sean was relentless and fun to watch. We were all very happy for him and he has since joined the gym. We look forward to good things with Sean. Great night for everyone involved, turned out the fights were only the beginning of our adventures that evening…but that is another tale! ”
