Paul Douglas Wins by Rear Naked Choke at BAMMA 17

SBG Mainline’s Paul Douglas made his professional MMA debut on December 6th at the BAMMA 17 event in Manchester, UK, and he did so in great style. Douglas opened up his professional record with an impressive first round defeat of Borys Feldman, dominating the stand up, before securing a rear naked choke to earn a submission with not even half of the first round gone.

You can watch the full fight here.

The win, and the efficiency with which it was achieved, add credence to Douglas’ comments in the pre-fight interview. In it, he confidently predicted the fact that his opponent would be unlikely to make it beyond the opening round. With this prediction so emphatically coming true, featherweights around the UK should pay attention. After all, in that same interview Douglas stated his belief that he can become one of the best featherweights in the country soon enough!

04Paul Douglas’ first professional fight, and win

Douglas adds this first professional victory to an amateur MMA record of 6-0. The step from amateur to professional has clearly been taken in stride, and he has started out exactly how he left off in the amateur sphere – with a first round stoppage. Only one of Douglas’ previous opponents has managed to last a full three rounds with the SBG Mainline featherweight, and his most recent amateur victory, over Brett Venables in March of this year, saw Douglas take home the British Amateur Lock-In title. With a run of such impressive success at that level, there seems to be little reason not to make the move to competing with the pros.

After the contest, Douglas reaffirmed the fact that, with one of the best teams in the country behind him in SBG Mainline, he sees no reason why he cant go all the way as a featherweight. With his first pro win under his belt, he also stated an eagerness to have a busy 2015. It certainly promises to be a big year for him. Check out his post fight interview here.

04SBG Mainline teammate Martin Stapleton Wins Too!

Paul Douglas was not the only SBG Mainline face to appear at BAMMA 17. Teammate Martin Stapleton extended his professional record to 15-4 with a comfortable win over Sebastian Fournier. Even better, Stapleton finished his fight with a first round rear naked choke of his own! Despite two fighters on the card, Straight Blast Gym’s appearance at BAMMA 17 lasted barely a full round! Congratulations Paul Douglas, Martin Stapleton, and all at SBG Mainline!
